Driver Recognized for Heroic Efforts

Longtime veteran driver and KKW employee, Mike Rios, was recently recognized for coming to the aid of a pedestrian. He was at the right place at the right time! A local resident and head supervisor of a handicap program in Orange County submitted a letter of acknowledgement. The incident occurred on February 21, 2012. Mike Rios, came to the rescue of one of her clients. Somehow, the gentleman had gotten out of his wheelchair and made his way off the curb and into the street at Warner and Flower, a very busy intersection. Our driver, Mike, stopped his truck in the middle of the street, got out and picked the boy up to put him back in his chair. The boy could have been seriously hurt if it wasn't for the quick thinking of our driver. As stated by the author of the letter, "It takes a lot now days for anyone to lend a helping hand." On behalf of the local nursing staff and of course, KKW Trucking, THANK YOU Mike Rios, for being there and having the courage to help the young man to safety.

KKW Trucking, Inc. wins 1st place in the California Trucking Association's Fleet Safety Contest

Started in 1983 for CTA members, the Fleet Safety Awards program recognizes and awards the safe operation of fleets in California. The companies that win CTA's awards pass a battery of tests and reviews that show clear evidence of a commitment to safety on California's Highways. The purpose of the Fleet Safety Contest is to recognize companies that reduce accidents by designing and running a top-notch safety program.

An independent panel of judges, chosen from government agencies, review the self audit results that are provided by the participating companies. The panel looks at how the company organizes its safety programs, as well as training, driver supervision, preventitive maintenance and overall record of accident reduction. A field audit is then performed by CTA safety staff to insure the accuracy of all winning entries.

The annual awards banquet was held at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento, Sacramento, California on Wednesday, April 27th. In attendance from KKW were President and CEO, Dennis Firestone, CFO, Lynnette Brown, Chief Operating Officer, Steve Benninghoff, Fleet Maintenance Manager, Jim Brown and Operations Manager, Tom Howard.

Congratulations TEAM!

The Carpet Recyclers Partners With KKW Trucking
KKW Commitment to Green Transportation Adds to Environmental
Benefits From The Carpet Recyclers' West Coast Operations

LA MIRADA, CA--(Marke tw ire - January 12, 2011) - The Carpe t Recyclers today announced their partnership with KKW Trucking to expand the quality transportation services available to its carpet recycling customers and ensure the least impact on the environment from the transport of post-consumer carpet to their recycling facilities.
Based on fuel efficiency, outstanding environmental performance and an average age of 1.5
years of their 350 unit tractor flee t, the U.S. EPA has awarded KKW Trucking the top score in
their SmartWay Transport Partnership program. The Carpet Recyclers' zero-waste-to-landfill
facilities will divert over 100 million pounds of carpet from landfills in 2011. The nylon recovered will save over 230,000 barrels of oil that would have been required to manufacture virgin nylon
and keep ove r 100,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere .

Operating throughout the 11 Western States, KKW will drop off one of their over 700 -- 28 foot
or 53 foot -- enclosed trailers at The Carpet Recyclers' customer locations. When filled with used carpet, an empty trailer will be delivered and the full one taken by KKW Trucking to The Carpet Recyclers' state-of-the-art facilities.

"Early on we realized that we would need to include transportation as part of The Carpet Recyclers' services," said Larry Fink, President. "We are thrilled to partner with an innovative
company like KKW Trucking who not only provides outstanding customer service but is also
committed to minimizing the impact on the environment from their operations."
"Our commitment to 'being green' extends into our offices, warehouses and even the hybrid
cars provided to our sales staff," added Dennis Firestone , KKW Trucking President and CEO.

"We were shocked that almost 4% of all waste going into landfills is old carpet and are very
excited to play a role in helping The Carpet Recyclers recover this valuable resource . I'm
confident that KKW and The Carpet Recyclers are the right team, at the right time to take our
integrated businesses to a new level of performance that will day in and day out exceed our
customers' expectations."
Products made from carpet recycling include new carpet, carpet padding, a wide range of
building products and high-energy fuel. A new California carpet recovery bill passed during 2010 establishes the nation's first comprehensive, industry-backed carpet recovery program. The
Carpet Recyclers have created over 50 new green jobs since 4th quarter 2010.

2010 Northern California Drivers of the Month

The California Trucking Association recently held their 2010 Driver of the Month Reception and Banquet on Saturday, November 6th at the Sacramento Marriott Rancho Cordova. This event is the California trucking industry's premier event honoring and celebrating the dedicated drivers who achieve outstanding safety performance in 2010. These drivers have been nominated by their companies and succeeded at the nation's most intense driver award program.

Congratulations to the following KKW Trucking drivers for being selected as Drivers of the Month for 2010!

March 2010 - Sherry Vaughn, Local Driver, 1-10 years driving
June 2010 - Anthony Jones, Local Driver, 11-20 years driving
June 2010 - Anthony Washington, Local Driver, 21 or more years driving

In attendance for the arwards banquet were Jim Kraft, Chuck McVey, Anthony Jones and Tony (Anthony) Washington.

The purpose of the Driver of the Month awards is to recognize the men and women that our industry is built upon. This program is intended to identify and honor drivers who have displayed a high degree of excellence during their driving career. These drivers have displayed a continuous dedication to highway safety and a respect for the basic rules of the road that all drivers should live by. The selection process is very competitive. Unlike the California Truck Driving Championships, which measure the driver’s skills, this is a driver recognition program where professional drivers are selected based on their many years of:

  • Driving
  • Clean records, and
  • Overall job and community activities

Applications are accepted for the North and the South through September 2010. There are two rounds of judging throughout the year. If an applicant is not chosen the first round, the driver is still eligible for the second round. Drivers of the Month are notified when they are chosen. A Driver of the Year for the North and one for the South is chosen from all of the winners.
The program culminates with an awards banquet for the North drivers and another for the South drivers where we recognize and salute each person and their companies for their accomplishments. The night is also filled with great excitement and anticipation as the Driver of the Year honor is revealed for the first time and bestowed upon the unknowing recipient.
This is an excellent safety incentive program as well as a chance to recognize the industry's most valuable commodity - our drivers!

The Southern California Drivers of the Month will be celebrated Saturday, November 13th at the Wyndham Hotel Costa Mesa.
